Boars Head Recalls Over 200,000 Pounds of Deli Meat Due to Listeria Contamination

Meat Recalled Includes Liverwurst and Ham Products

Consumers Urged to Return or Discard Products

On July 26, 2024, at 7:39 PM UTC, Boars Head recalled more than 207,000 pounds of deli meat products due to the potential risk of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections.

The recalled products include:

  • 95-pound and 45-pound full product
  • Various weight packages sliced in retail delis containing Boars Head VIRGINIA HAM OLD FASHIONED HAM with sell-by dates of:
    • Bologna
    • Garlic bologna
    • Beef bologna
    • Beef salami
    • Italian Virginia Ham
    • Old Fashioned Ham
    • Extra Hot Italian
    • Cappy Style Ham

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the store where they were purchased or discard them immediately. Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

"The health and safety of our customers is our top priority," said a Boars Head spokesperson. "We are taking this recall very seriously and are working closely with the USDA to ensure that all affected products are removed from the market." Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Boars Head at 844-262-7790.

The recall is a reminder to consumers to practice safe food handling habits, such as washing their hands before and after handling food, cooking meat to the proper temperature, and refrigerating perishable foods promptly.
