Mayo Collects First Major League Hit
Hyde: Experience Was Positive
Outfielder Coby Mayo has been optioned back to Triple-A Norfolk after going 1-for-17 in seven games with the Baltimore Orioles.
Manager Brandon Hyde said the experience was a positive one for Mayo, who collected his first major league hit on Wednesday night against the Houston Astros.
"I really think that my experience in particular in Houston going through all those managerial interviews that we did, seeing us change, it gave me a lot of perspective," Mayo said.
Hyde said he's not looking for Mayo to replace Jordan Westburg at shortstop.
"I'm not looking at him to replace Jordan Westburg," Hyde said. "He's a young player. He's got a lot of talent. He's going to continue to get better. But I'm not looking at him to come up here and be our everyday shortstop right now."
