There is conflicting information regarding when Bob Menendez, a 70-year-old Democratic senator from New Jersey, and his wife Nadine Arslanian first met. Indictment and Trial
In September 2017, Menendez and his wife were indicted on charges of bribery, conspiracy, and fraud. The indictment alleged that Menendez accepted bribes from Salomon Melgen, a wealthy eye doctor, in exchange for political favors.
Menendez's defense team claimed that his wife, who was a co-defendant in the corruption trial, kept financial records for Melgen and was not involved in any wrongdoing. However, prosecutors argued that Nadine Arslanian was aware of the bribes and helped to conceal them.
The trial ended in a mistrial in 2017 due to a hung jury. A second trial was scheduled for 2018, but the charges against Menendez were ultimately dropped.
