A Multi-National Empire
The Kingdom of Hungary, a monarchy in Central Europe, existed for almost a millennium. In 1867, it became part of the multi-national constitutional monarchy known as Austria-Hungary, also known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the Dual Monarchy.
The Arrival of the Hungarians
The Hungarians arrived in the form of a powerful centralized steppe-empire led by Grand Prince Álmos and his son Árpád. They became the founders of the Hungarian state.
The Hapsburg Empire
From 1867 until its collapse in 1918, Austria-Hungary was part of the Hapsburg empire. The constitutional compromise known as the Ausgleich resulted in the creation of the Dual Monarchy.
Former Monarchy of Central Europe
Austria-Hungary, or the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was a former monarchy in Central Europe. At one point, it included Austria, Hungary, and Bohemia.
