Luis Enrique's Career as Spain National Team Manager

Early Life and Playing Career

Luis Enrique was born in 1970 in Gijón, Spain. He began his playing career with Sporting Gijón in 1989, before moving to Real Madrid in 1991. Enrique was a versatile player who could play in both midfield and defense. He won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid and one Copa del Rey title.

In 1996, Enrique transferred to Barcelona, where he won two more La Liga titles and one UEFA Champions League title. Enrique made over 300 appearances for Barcelona and is considered one of the club's greatest players.

Coaching Career

After retiring from playing, Enrique began his coaching career in 2008 with Barcelona B. He led the team to promotion to the Segunda División in his first season. In 2011, Enrique was appointed manager of Barcelona's first team. He won the La Liga title in his first season in charge, and also led the team to the UEFA Champions League final.

In 2014, Enrique left Barcelona and took over as manager of Celta Vigo. He led the team to seventh place in La Liga in his first season in charge, and also helped the team reach the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Spain National Team

In 2018, Enrique was appointed manager of the Spain national team. He replaced Fernando Hierro, who had been in charge of the team on a temporary basis. Enrique's first match in charge was a 2-1 friendly win over England.

In the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Enrique led Spain to the Round of 16, where they lost to Russia on penalties. In the 2020 UEFA European Championship, Enrique led Spain to the semi-finals, where they lost to Italy on penalties.

Enrique resigned as manager of the Spain national team in June 2022. He was replaced by Luis de la Fuente.
